Couples Coaching Sessions as an Alternative to Couples Therapy

You’re not here because you don’t love each other.

Not every couple needs an intensive.

Sometimes you need a place to land.
A place to bring what is happening right now and work through it with clarity,
care, and direction.

Maybe something specific has come up. Maybe you are noticing patterns you
want to shift. Maybe you just know your relationship could feel better than it does.

You may have searched for couples therapy, or wondered if that is the right next step.

You do not have to wait until things are at a breaking point. We can start where you are.

THE REALITY MOST COUPLES ARE LIVING

Many couples are not in crisis.
But they are also not where they want to be.

You find yourselves reacting faster than you mean to.
Getting pulled into conversations you did not intend to have. Saying things
you wish you could take back. Or holding back what actually matters.

There are moments where you can feel it slipping.

A look. A tone. A shift in energy.
And suddenly you are no longer on the same side.

You try to recover, but it does not quite land. One of you pushes. The other
pulls away. Or you both shut down and move on without actually resolving anything.

On the surface, things may look fine. But underneath, there is a quiet accumulation.

Unspoken things. Unrepaired moments. Conversations that never quite got where they needed to go.

And over time, that creates distance.

Not because you do not care.

But because you do not yet have a reliable way back to each other when it matters most.

A flexible approach to support.

Guided Sessions offer a more flexible, ongoing way to work together.

This is a coaching space where we attend to what is most alive in your relationship each time we meet.
There is no fixed container.
No required timeline.
No pressure to commit beyond what feels right.

We can:

  • address something specific that just happened

  • work through a recurring pattern

  • build communication and repair skills over time

  • set and track goals if that is useful

You set the pace.

We work with what is real.

Therapy and coaching

Many couples come here after considering or experiencing couples therapy.

Guided Sessions may feel familiar in their pace and flexibility.

At the same time, this is still a coaching approach.

I am a trained psychotherapist, and my work now is focused on helping you actively change how you relate to each other in real time.

That means we are not only talking about what is happening.

We are working directly with it as it unfolds.

We will work shoulder to shoulder on your relationship pain points.

You will unlearn connection-breaking habits, and learn connection-making skills.

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING COUPLES THERAPY

Many couples arrive here after considering or trying traditional couples therapy. If you are looking for a space to process emotions, explore history, or move at a slower pace, traditional therapy may be a better fit.

If you are looking to actively build the skills required for a strong, connected relationship then, active, skill-based, and focused work offers a more direct path. Both approaches have value.

Couples coaching is designed for those who are ready to practice, apply, and change how they show up with each other in real time.

What We will work on, together

In Guided Sessions, we focus on what is most relevant and alive in your relationship.
But this is not just a space to talk about what is happening.
This is a space to actively work with it.

When something comes up between you, we slow it down and look at it together.
What was said.
What was meant.
What was heard.
Where it went off track.

Then we practice doing it differently. In real time.

You will not just learn communication skills conceptually. You will use your actual conversations, your actual conflicts, and your actual challenges as the material for the work.

Inside sessions, you will receive:

  • direct feedback on how you are communicating

  • support in expressing what you are trying to say more clearly

  • guidance in listening in a way that actually creates understanding

  • help navigating moments of defensiveness, shutdown, or escalation

  • real-time coaching through rupture and repair

We work shoulder to shoulder on your relationship pain points.
You will unlearn connection-breaking habits, and learn connection-making skills.

Over time, these moments start to shift.

What once led to conflict begins to lead to clarity.
What once created distance begins to create connection.

This is where couples who feel stuck in the same arguments begin to experience real change.
Not because you talked about it more… Because you learned how to do it differently.

how sessions work

Sessions are virtual and designed to fit your schedule and needs.

  • 60-minute or 90-minute sessions

  • scheduled weekly, biweekly, monthly, or as needed

  • daytime weekday availability

Many couples choose to meet weekly at the beginning to build momentum and avoid a prolonged getting-to-know-you period.

From there, we can adjust based on what works best for you.

What becomes possible

Over time, couples often experience:

  • clearer, more effective communication

  • less reactivity and more understanding

  • the ability to move through conflict with less disruption

  • increased emotional safety and connection

  • a stronger sense of being on the same team

Small, consistent shifts can change the trajectory of a relationship.

Who is this for?

Guided Sessions are a strong fit for couples who:

  • are not ready for an intensive or don’t want that level of commitment

  • prefer a flexible, pay-as-you-go model

  • want to start working together and see how it goes

  • have schedules that don’t allow for consistent weekly sessions

  • are navigating either acute situations or ongoing relational growth

This is a place to begin, continue, or return to the work as needed.

What will change

Couples who commit to this work often experience:

  • a reduction in conflict intensity and frequency

  • the ability to repair faster instead of staying stuck

  • greater clarity, honesty, and emotional safety

  • a deeper sense of partnership and teamwork

  • a relationship that feels more connected and grounded

This is not about becoming a perfect couple. It is about becoming a capable one.

Investment

How to begin

You can begin with a single session.

Or we can set up a cadence that works for you.

We will start by getting a clear understanding of what is happening in your relationship and where you would like support.

From there, we will begin the work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the Couples Intensive?

Guided Sessions are more flexible and less structured.
The Intensive is a 3-month container with a clear arc and faster pace of change.
Guided Sessions allow you to work at your own pace and attend to what is most relevant each time you meet.

Is this basically couples therapy?

It may feel similar in structure, especially if you have experienced therapy before.
The difference is in the focus.
This work emphasizes building and practicing relational skills so that what happens between you begins to change in real time.

How often should we meet?

Weekly sessions are recommended at the beginning to build momentum.
After that, you can choose a cadence that works for your schedule, needs, and budget.

Can we switch into an Intensive later?

Yes.
Some couples begin with Guided Sessions and then decide they want a more focused, immersive experience.
We can transition into an Intensive if and when that feels right.

Do we need therapy or coaching?

Many couples are unsure where to begin.
If you are looking to process deeper emotional or psychological issues over time, therapy may be a better fit.
If you are looking to improve how you communicate, navigate conflict, and relate to each other in real time, coaching offers a more direct and skill-based approach.

If you are unsure, we can talk it through together.
